The Spring 2025 Biology Colloquium Series continues this Friday with a seminar by Margaret McFall-Ngai, Faculty Associate at Caltech and Senior Staff Scientist at Carnegie Science. Dr. McFall-Ngai studies the symbiosis of bobtail squid and Vibrio fischerii bacteria, in which the squid recruit bacteria to live in a “light organ”, where they produce bioluminescence that creates protective countershading camouflage for the squid. Her talk, presented with support from the Distinguished Visiting Speaker program, will be titled “How to recognize your symbiotic partner with each new generation: Lessons from the squid-vibrio association”.
Colloquium series seminars are held Fridays at 2pm in Chaparral Hall room 5125.
