Colloquium: Brawley on the evolutionary power of seaweed

This week’s seminar in the Biology Colloquium series will be given by Dr. Susan Brawley, visiting the Department from the University of Maine. Brawely studies the red alga Porphyra umbilicalis, which you might have eaten at your last visit to a sushi restaurant — and which is a kind of “Rosetta stone” for the evolution of photosynthetic cellular symbiosis. She will discuss findings from the recently published Porphyra genome project.

The Biology Colloquium series is held every Friday during the semester, at 2:00pm in Chaparral Hall room 5125.
