Spring Break is still a week away, but CSUN Biologists are already thinking about commencement, and plans beyond — faculty are writing letters of recommendation and reviewing applications for 2026 student awards and scholarships, and summer research opportunities are opening up.
The Office of Undergraduate Research is taking applications for multiple undergraduate opportunities: the Travel Scholarship to support conference attendance, which closes March 15; the 2026 Summer JumpStart experience, which provides a stipend to students who take a two-week course in research methods aligned to their interests is open until March 27; and the SUNRISE eight-week summer mentored research program has a deadline of March 30.
The Southern California Garden Club has opened applications for its annual scholarship, offering $1000 to current high school, undergraduate, and graduate students working in agricultural and horticultural fields, including evolution and ecology or genetics of plants. Applications are due March 28.
The Biology Colloquium seminar series continues this week with Jennifer (Adeleye) Nnoli, a Clinical Scientist and Director at the international pharmaceutical developer Daiichi Sankyo. Dr. Nnoli’s talk will be titled, “Advancing Global Oncology through Bench-to-Bedside Innovation”. Colloquium seminars are held this semester at 2:30pm in Chaparral Hall room 5125.
