Our October heatwave continues this week, but CSUN biologists are keeping their cool as deadlines approach for fellowship and grant proposals—and for class projects. The coming week brings a cooldown, a presentation on the value of undergraduate research experiences, and an alumni success story in a special seminar series.
The CIRM N-COMPASS program is organizing virtual seminars with CSUN alumni speaking about their paths into Biology careers after graduation. The first, held over Zoom next Wednesday, Oct 14 at 6pm, will feature Carlos Salas Chung, a CIRM Bridges to Stem Cell Research alumnus who went on to work at AMGEN as a Process Development Associate Scientist. You can register for Chung’s presentation, and later ones on the schedule, at this link.
The Biology Colloquium Seminar Series continues Friday with a talk by Jessica Bautista, from the leadership team of the CSU Monterey Bay Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center. Dr. Bautista’s talk, “Empowerment through research and scholarship: The benefits of undergraduate research”, is sponsored by URISE. Colloquium seminars are held Fridays this semester at 2:30 pm in Chaparral Hall 5122; after his talk, Dr. Bautista will join a meet-the-speaker gathering with students in Chaparral Hall 5201.
