CSUN Biologists have enjoyed some nearly autumnal weather thanks, ironically, to the edges of a tropical storm passing through town—but the end of the week brings a warmup heralded by Santa Ana winds. We’re keeping the windows closed and carrying on with classes, lab work, and writing.
The CIRM N-COMPASS virtual seminars with CSUN Biology alumni continues next week with Jose Chacon, a BUILD PODER alumnus who recently completed a PhD in stem cell biology at UC San Diego. Dr. Chancon’s talk will be held over Zoom next Wednesday, Oct 21 at 5pm. You can register for the presentation at this link.
The Biology Colloquium Seminar Series continues Friday with a talk by Carolin Nieder, a postdoctoral investigator at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Dr. Nieder studies how marine species perceive and respond to sound, which behaves quite differently underwater than it does in the atmosphere we experience on dry land. Dr. Nieder’s talk, hosted by the Edmunds Lab, will be titled, “From sharks to corals: Investigating hearing and sound perception in marine keystone species”. Colloquium seminars are held Fridays this semester at 2:30 pm in Chaparral Hall 5122; and after her talk, Dr. Nieder will join a meet-the-speaker gathering with students in Chaparral Hall 5201.
